A Close Cut

Cutting off the ends of cable ties using a wire clipper or scissors is the standard method of getting rid of the excess cable tie. This approach, however, leaves a sharp edge, which can snag on clothing or cut your finger. I’ve found that the curved blade of a fingernail clipper is useful for trimming cable ties closely and smoothly but without sharp edges.
