DARPA X Prime Program Contemplates Hybrid Electric Flying Wing
Graham Warwick reported in the 16 August Aviation Week magazine that DARPA is exploring the concept of an “X Prime” program that would fit between an experimental X-plane and a Y-plane prototype and help move a prototype forward from research to operation. One of DARPA’s current projects is the “Shepard” program (for Series Hybrid-Electric Propulsion Aircraft Demonstrator). The program reportedly is looking at an efficient hybrid-electric system to be integrated into a new aircraft design....
