Next Gen Open Rotor Engine to Power Single-Aisle Airliners
As reported June 14 by Guy Norris on Aviationweek.com, the unducted, open fan engine is making progress in the Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines (RISE) program. The open rotor engine, which is being pursued for the next generation of single-aisle airliners, offers double-digit efficiency gains due to a lower fan pressure ratio. The design eliminates the structure around the fan in conventional jet engines, reducing weight. It is expected to enter service in the mid-2030s....
