Clamp a rod or a nail in a vise. Make a 90-degree bend in a piece of wire and secure one end in the vise. Pull the wire around the rod or nail, as shown (a). Snip off the excess wire as shown in (b), and then bend the loop back 90 degrees as in (c). ILLUSTRATION BY JIM NEWMAN
